George Mayer is an acclaimed photographer and designer known for his compelling black-and-white imagery and innovative approach to portraiture. Born in Nizhny Tagil, Russia, in 1985, he graduated with honors in Environmental Design from the Ural College of Arts and Crafts in 2004. Following his studies, Mayer worked as an interior designer, earning recognition in national architecture and design competitions, with his work published by esteemed publishers such as Tatlin and UniverPress.

Transitioning to photography in 2007, Mayer quickly made a mark by participating in international competitions, including the Photography Masters Cup and The Spider Awards. In 2011, he won the Russian photo contest Young Photographers of Russia, leading to exhibitions in Kazan, Moscow, and at the international art festival in Marsciano, Italy. That same year, he secured the title of Photographer of the Year at The Spider Awards (USA) for Outstanding Achievements in Black-and-White Photography.

Mayer's project "Shadows" earned him the Photographer of the Year award at the International Photography Awards, with the ceremony held at Carnegie Hall in New York City. In 2017, his series "Light. Shadows. Perfect Woman." won first prize in the Portraiture category at the Sony World Photography Awards, leading to widespread publication and exhibition at Somerset House in London. Sony subsequently granted support for his project "Libido & Mortido," further solidifying his reputation in the art world.

An equally important aspect of Mayer’s career is his commitment to education. For over 15 years, he has been teaching photography at an art college, through his own photography school, and via international online courses. His educational programs have attracted students from more than 30 countries, making him a recognized mentor in the global photographic community. His teaching focuses not only on technical mastery but also on nurturing personal vision and artistic expression.

By 2023, Mayer had participated in over 70 exhibitions worldwide, with works acquired by collectors in countries such as Italy, France, Australia, Japan, and Switzerland. His photographs have been featured in prominent publications including Forbes, The Times, and The Guardian. Additionally, his images have graced the covers of music albums for artists like Chris Brown and "Bullet for My Valentine," as well as book covers for esteemed authors such as Nobel laureate Mario Vargas Llosa and French writer Bernard Werber. His work has also been incorporated into visual media, including the Netflix film "Bright" (2017) and the acclaimed series "Fargo."

Mayer's distinctive style is characterized by a masterful use of light and shadow, creating evocative and timeless images that explore themes of identity and human emotion. His dedication to the craft and innovative vision continue to influence and inspire the field of contemporary photography.
