In 2017, Riccardo had the innovative idea of creating the first photography school based on Silversea's luxury cruise ships, sailing the polar regions of the Arctic and Antarctic. He has designed and run courses in collaboration with specialist photographers in polar regions such as the Antarctic Peninsula, the Arctic Circle and South Georgia. In addition, he has shared unique photographic experiences in non-polar destinations such as South Africa, Europe and the USA. His photographic experience extends to unusual conditions, reflecting his spirit of safe adventure. He also shares his passion for the pursuit of good food and conviviality around a table with good friends, which is one of his strengths.

Claudio is a freelance photographer based in Geneva. To successfully do street photography projects, it is important to learn how to anticipate what is happening, look for fun interactions and juxtapositions or capture fleeting moments. We will learn how to develop reactions, become bolder and break with the constraints of classical composition, all on the street practicing. The course leads to an understanding of the typologies, exemplary models and narrative techniques of urban reportage and street photography.The course is aimed at amateur and professional photographers who are interested in street photography, provided they already have the basics of digital technology. It includes practice time with a professional photographer.

The first and the last night of the trip will be spent in a comfortable hotel in Harstad. The other nights will take place in traditional rorbu — the iconic fishermen’s red cabins of the Lofoten Islands — carefully selected for their quality, tranquility, and comfort.When booking a single room, you will always have your own private bedroom, comfortable, quiet, and well insulated for a good night’s rest after long photography days. In some accommodations located in more remote areas, a rorbu may be shared with another participant and, in some cases, the bathroom may be shared. To ensure comfort and privacy for everyone, no rorbu will have more than two bedrooms and at most two rooms will share the same bathroom. These accommodations are not hotels but fully equipped apartments with all the necessary amenities. During three nights of the trip we will stay in a location where breakfast service is not available. On those mornings, we will personally prepare breakfast for the group according to everyone’s preferences.For lunch, we will try to stop in locations where you can have a light meal without losing valuable daylight hours. Each evening, depending on weather conditions and the group’s energy levels, we will organize a small “Photography Aperitif” in the rorbu of your instructors. During this photography trip, we will focus on capturing the essence of London’s skyline and famous buildings. St Paul’s Cathedral, built in 1675 by Christopher Wren, dominates the city skyline. Surrounded by magnificent new buildings such as the Shard, the Gherkin and the London Eye, the skyline offers a fabulous contrast of styles. We will capture dawn at Big Ben and dusk at Tower Bridge. We’ll spend time on long exposures to capture the River Thames, juxtaposed with the beautiful architecture. She studied a postgraduate course at the London College of Printing and has worked in photography since. She has worked primarily in corporate photography in London but also with the Royal Horticultural Society in England documenting their seed collection and adding images to their botanical library –&nbsp;<a href="http://www.flowerphotos.com/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" style="color: var(--link_color);">see image here</a>. Now Catherine loves working with small businesses creating still life images and portraits. She also loves teaching photography- sharing her enthusiasm and passion for finding ways to express your interpretation of the world.

Immerse yourself into incredibly diverse and luxurious wildlife in the Oder Delta and set yourself to take amazing shots of the white tailed eagle fishing as well as other famous European endemic wildlife (Foxes, Roe Deers, Red Deers, Badgers, Wild Horses, migratory birds). The expedition will let you experience “a week in the life” of a wildlife photographer – in the form of a living workshop – to discover how wildlife shots are made: from planning to publishing (incl. post production). The tour is guided by Gianmarco Cicuzza who is an active nature and wildlife operating mainly across Europe and Africa. He speaks English and Italian fluently. The official language for this trip is English.

The Oder Delta, spreading between the border of Poland and Germany, is a unique region with a rich mosaic of terrestrial,&nbsp;marine and freshwater ecosystems. Its strategic location&nbsp;on one of the ecological crossroads in Europe makes it one of the most exciting wild areas in north-central Europe. The vast natural areas are mainly taken care of by nature itself and wildlife has begun to thrive in more natural densities. The region stretches over more than 250,000 hectares, of which nearly 70,000 hectares are the open waters of the lagoon. The Oder Delta is an important stop-over site for migrating water birds using the East Atlantic Flyway. Rewetting of wet pastures in Germany and the abandonment of peat-cutting in Poland has allowed a dramatic comeback of wildlife, most spectacularly for white-tailed eagles that now have the highest breeding density in Europe as well as common crane, otter, beaver, salmon, sea-trout and many other species.

Poland Oder Delta: Wildlife Photography Tour

The accommodations and our base camp will be at Oder Delta Safari – located in Stepnica / Poland.Accommodations will be provided in two rural houses in the Oder Delta. One is the base camp of Oder Delta safari and the other one is a house nearby. The accommodations are equipped with all comforts (heating system, hot water, kitchen, private bathrooms) and they are located few kilometers away from the port and also the main natural attractions.

Gianmarco was born in Italy. He was thrilled by photography&nbsp;very early in his life thanks to his dad and uncle who were developing pictures at home in the dark room. The passion for photography and the need to freeze the moment progressively grew and it led him to take studio photography classes in Rome at Officine Fotografiche Roma. However, the studio was not really his environment and he soon directed his attention to Sport Photography and then found his dimension with Nature and Landscape photography where he creatively reapplies what he learnt about light. He loves to travel the world to hunt nature and wildlife in its purest form.

The Val d’Orcia is one of Tuscany’s six World Heritage sites. The valley’s landscape of gentle, rolling hills was the subject of many Renaissance paintings, especially by the painters of the Scuola Senese, or The Siena School, mentioned in the Val d’ Orcia’s UNESCO nomination. This region has everything that visitors to Tuscany come to see and experience, from the powerhouse DOCG wines of Brunello di Montalcino and Vino Nobile to spa towns like Bagno Vignoni, whose “baths” in the public square are fed by springs of Monte Amiata, which marks the southern boundary of the territory. There are abbeys and gardens–and that zig-zagged strada bianca lined with cypresses that has come to be a symbol of this territory. It's no wonder the region achieved UNESCO nomination: “The Val d’Orcia is an exceptional reflection of the way the landscape was re-written in Renaissance times to reflect the ideals of good governance and to create aesthetically pleasing pictures.” During this photography tour of Tuscany, we will stop to photograph the magnificent medieval village of San Gimignano, called “Manhattan of the Middle Ages,” with its towers and exceptional views.&nbsp;Next, we’ll go to Monteriggioni, a medieval walled city, where we will stay in a typical farmhouse. Finally, at the end of the tour on Sunday, we will focus our lenses on the majesty of Florence, discovering secrets, stories and contrasts until evening.

Arrival at Cappadocia:Closest airport is Nevsehir airport (NAV), which is 45km / 40m to our hotel at Cappadocia. Kayseri airport (ASR) is also an option (75km / 1h15m).Transfer from NAV airport to the hotel included for the THY flight arriving on the evening of the first day (around 20:30). If you come at a different day or time, please assume a transfer cost of CHF 25. Also possible to arrive at Kayseri Airport (ASR) on the same day (sometimes there are very cheap flights). In this case, please assume an extra transfer cost of CHF 35. Departure from Cappadocia:The program will be finished on Sunday evening. Join us on a photography tour to Zermatt, where the breathtaking natural scenery is so iconic, it inspired the shape of Toblerone chocolate. The Matterhorn is one of the world's most famous mountain peaks and for sure one of the iconic shots when it comes to landscape photography. Standing almost 4’500m tall at the border of Swiss canton Wallis and the Italian Aosta valley, it shows a significant and distinct shape that is best seen (and photographed) from the east. To get the best views and compositions of this Swiss classic, we will set camp at the Fluhalp and visit all the famous mountain lakes that reflect the Matterhorn like a mirror. The Stellisee will be on our list as well as the Grindjisee and 3 others. We will explore the high alpine region of Zermatt, visit the rural mountain village of Findeln and enjoy incredible panoramic views from sunrise to sunset.

Thailand is a joyful and warm country in Southeast Asia. Doi Inthanon National Park has the highest peak in the country (2565m!). In its heart, an amazing temple is sublimated by this high altitude environment. Besides the temple, the park has beautiful waterfalls and other photographic opportunities. The "White Temple" (Wat Rong Khun) in Chiang Rai, in the very north of the country, is a nugget to photograph. This trip would not be complete without spending time at the capital, to take street photos in the markets and city photos at night by perching on the roof of a building. In November, the weather is usually nice and warm, the rainy season having ended a few months ago. And yes, we do not need to mention the delicious local food...

Trip Highlights

During this photo expedition and you can actively participate to “a week in the life” of a wildlife photographer – in the form of a living workshop – to discover how wildlife shots are made: from planning to publishing (incl. post production). The tour is guided by Gianmarco Cicuzza who is an active nature and wildlife photographer operating mainly across Europe and Africa and Martin Mayer who is a very experienced local South African travel guide with very deep knowledge of local habits and the natural environment. Kruger Park does not probably need a lot of words to be described. It is one of the most iconic (and the largest) parks in South Africa where it is still possible to observe African wildlife completely free to roam in its natural environment with basically no human interaction. It covers an area of 19,485 square km on the South African border with Mozambique. There is a high density of animals in the Kruger National Park. This makes the encounters with wildlife very frequent and also very diverse. We have designed this trip to make sure we visit the southern part of Kruger National Park which is also were most of the water is flowing at the moment. This will significantly increase the chances of wildlife encounters. It is basically a paradise for nature and wildlife lovers. We are extremely excited to add this epic destination to our itinerary! Experience Mongolia's nomadic culture, meet eagle hunters, and take incredible photos of the vast, untouched landscapes of Altai mountains and Gobi Desert of Mongolia with Swiss Photo Club.

The Gobi Desert (Gobi meaning ‘waterless place’) is a vast, arid region and stretches across northern China and southern Mongolia. You probably know if for its sand dunes and camels. It’s even said that the the Khongoryn Els sand dunes in the Gobi Gurvansaikhan National Park sing when the wind blows. The Flaming Cliffs are another famous site, where dinosaur fossils have been found. The breathtaking Altai Mountains form a huge part of the stunning scenery of the Western part of the country and play a key role in the second half of the tour. This is the land that nomadic families have called home for thousands of years up to today. Eagle Hunting (´berkutchi´) has played a significant role in day to day life and is still a key element in the national culture. We will stay with these families and join them in the hills and creeks to create stunning photos of this spectacular tradition. Altai Tavan Bogd National Park is located on the Western most point of Mongolia in Bayan-Ulgii Province. This vast, mountainous park borders China and Russia with views of Kazakhstan from the highest peak in Mongolia. Road trip adventureMongolia is a huge country. This means that there will be long periods spent in our vehicles getting from one location to the next. Roads are mostly unpaved, where there are roads at all. This is really a big part of the adventure. With our vehicles, we’re able to drive through the mountains and cross rivers. It will be an experience unlike anything. We’ll be far away from the civilized world, driving through scenery that constantly changes. There will be plenty of photo opportunities along the way. Due to the rough terrain, it may happen that we experience a vehicle breakdown. Our experienced drivers are usually able to fix this quickly--but you can take advantage by walking around and shooting more photos.

Mongolia Photo Tour: An adventure with the experts

We’ll stay in a nice hotel in UlaanBaatar. In Olgii, we stay in bit more basic hotel, but still the best in town. The hotel in Olgii has private shower in each room, electricity, wifi, and a private toilet. During the Gobi desert part of our trip, we will stay in heated Ger tents, sleeping in beds. Women sleep in one Ger, men in the other Ger. There is electricity in every tent in Gobi, and in there is a kitchen in the Flaming Cliffs area. Facilities are camp-style, outside in a sheltered normal toilet. Some camps have modern toilet facilities outside, some have a basic hole in the ground with shelter around. Dining happens in a separate Ger tent. There is no WiFi for the Gobi part of the trip, but slow cellular internet connection is partially available. There’s a possibility to buy a local SIM card fairly inexpensively prior to the start of the trip. There are no hotels in Gobi, only nice Ger camps . This experience might be a bit out of your comfort zone, but the amazing unspoiled nature around will definitely make up for it! Please note that we will bring an amazing cook for this trip. Even vegetarian options are available. It’s hard to get veggies in Mongolia, but you can be sure that we will take care of good food during this trip. For example, for breakfast we may have eggs, toast with nutella, sausages, juice, coffee etc. For lunch and dinner, we may have salads, nice soup and meat/pasta/rice.

Dunes offer a kaleidoscope of shifting color and texture and the architectural splendor of the region’s most famous Kasbah –-Ait Benhaddou, dating back to at least the 13th century is undiminished and it still houses many families within its mud-brick walls.This 8 day program covers the High Atlas Mountains including Ait Benhaddou, Dades valley and Todra Gorge as well as the desert south and Sahara dunes. Darren began taking photographs in the early 1980’s and printing in a makeshift darkroom at home. He went onto study photography, firstly on an art and design foundation course, before graduating with a degree in Photographic Studies in 1992 and an MSc in Film Production in 1994.&nbsp;Photographing both landscape and portraiture using digital and large format film, his images are characterised by a high level of compositional and technical accomplishment.&nbsp;&nbsp;Based in Morocco, Darren explores the region for project related work. Darren first visited Morocco in 1991 to make a student film and take photographs in the Anti-Atlas Mountains. He returned in 1993 again for a student project, this time to Essaouira.&nbsp;During the 1990’s he made several visits to the town, making a documentary on an Englishwoman’s adventure with Gnawa music.&nbsp; Darren is also qualified lecturer with a Postgraduate Diploma in Education and has several years experience planning and delivering courses in the UK.&nbsp;&nbsp;He is a passionate photographic educator, collaborating with Swiss Photo Club since 2022.&nbsp;

A week of photography in the capital of the world

Philipp Funke discovered his passion for photography in his early childhood. Coming from a family of architects, his interest in the interplay of formal and social aspects was fostered. He studied architecture at the Berlin University of the Arts and at the Macintosh School of Art in Glasgow. In 2006, he graduated with a master's degree.After ten years as an architect, he concentrated on his work as a photographer and completed further training in visual design with a focus on photography at the School for Design in Zurich.As a primary motif, architectural content characterizes his work. He analyzes the situations depicted on a formal as well as on a political and social level, often abandoning the purely documentary character of photography and giving the images an intrinsic value by making his original intention visible.In various group exhibitions in Germany and Switzerland, he mainly showed his large-format works such as "lichen structures", "Nature of Geometry" or "Opening Red Doors". The latter series about the rooms of Enver Hoxha's villa in Tirana was awarded in the category architecture at the International Photography Awards 2021.Philipp Funke lectured at the University of Liechtenstein, the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) Zurich and the Fotoclub Schweiz on various topics of (architectural) photography. He lives and works in New York, Zurich and Berlin.

At our first and last day in Muscat, we will be staying in a 4 stars hotel such as Radisson, Hilton, Sheraton or similar. It depends on the current availability. We are aiming to get a hotel with a pool so refreshing and relaxing will also be possible. 4 stars hotel in Muscat correspond with the level of standard comparable to Europe, sometimes even higher. Breakfast in Muscat will be included. As there are plenty of delicious restaurants in Muscat that serve traditional as well as modern food, we encourage you to have dinner with us outside of the hotel. We can make reservations for the entire group and you feel very welcome to join us at dinner. In Nizwa, we are going to stay in a basic hotel with traditional accommodations right in the city center of Nizwa. This can be Bustin Inn, Heritage Inn, Antique Inn or similar. In the Jebel Shams mountains, we will be staying at the Sama Height resort. Besides breakfast, also the dinner is included here. In the Wahiba Sands desert, it really depends on the availability of the desert camps. One possible accommodation could be the Safari Dunes camp with 8 little houses. In case this place is not available, we will be booking accommodations that are similar. Breakfast and dinner are both included in the desert. In Ras Al Hadd we aim to stay in a guesthouse of a private B&amp;B host close to the sea. All hotels have private bathrooms and toilets as well as electricity. From our experience, all mentioned accommodations offer free wifi internet connection but please be informed that it is very unlikely to have a cellular internet connection in the desert in the Jebal Shams mountains. Dinner at the hotels are mostly rice with chicken as a main course but there is typically enough choice for vegetarians. At remote place such as Jebal Shams and Wahiba Sands desert we can make a note of any food preferences but we cannot guarantee that the host can make It possible.&nbsp;At any time of our journey, we will have enough snacks and water with us.

Daniel’s first camera ever was actually an Apple iPhone 3G S. Starting in 2014, mobile photography has helped him to gain an easy and playful access to photography and to express his strong design sense and intuition for aesthetics. Ever since, Daniel wants to connect people with their environment to illustrate the soul of a place. By using all kinds of compositional and harmonic elements such as lines, forms, patterns, light and proportions, Daniel playfully educates the viewer that beautiful and artsy moments can be found everywhere and at any time.
In his approach as a quiet photographer, he mindfully observes the environment to capture random occurring and fleeting moments. Putting his captured impressions into a temporary spotlight, visually isolated from the surrounding chaos, he carefully masters the balancing act of getting an aesthetical interpretation without creating a posed appearance and highlighting the surprisingly appealing strangeness of a place.
As part of this concept, he intentionally uses his smartphone only. For Daniel, it is crucial that mobile photography is immediate and reactive and allows him to create visual stories and sensitive insights without disturbing the environment. In 2019, some of his work has been shared by Apple and Adobe. In addition, his work has been awarded at the International Photography Awards (Smartphone Category) and as Grand Prize Winner of the Mobile Photography Awards. One of his pictures, taken with his iPhone, made it to the Shortlist of the renowned Sony World Photography Awards.
