This full day studio lighting photography course will teach you how to use professional lighting equipment for portraiture, at our professional photography studios in Zürich and Geneva. This is a full hands on practical workshop for all photography enthusiasts wanting to learn how to creatively shoot portraits using flash studio lights.
Learning how to control the light is a hard work, and the whole process could be overwhelming, but it can also be fun and the results fantastic.
Our studio lighting experts will guide you step by step, showing you how to set up your first light, a second light, add a reflector, and importantly how to get the picture right in the camera. Together we are going to bring you to a new level in your understanding of light, light shaping and emotional response to lighting. You will practice how to get stunning photographs that both you and your subject will be amazed by.
You will also learn how to arrange a shoot, tips about finding models in your area, some posing techniques and how to direct your model to get the picture you want. If you’re planning on setting up your home studio, you will get first hand advices on exact brands and models and where to best order them.
Creative and easy to follow, this studio lighting photography course has the right amount of theory and practice, that will enable you to boost your imagination, gain more confidence in a studio environment and bring home some stunning images for your portfolio.
At the end of the day not only you will gain confidence for shooting in a studio environment, but you will also walk away with some great images for your portfolio.

Course Requirements:
- Basic knowledge of photography including aperture, shutter speed, camera lenses and ISO including exposure modes. If you think you might need a bit of extra help, have a look at our Beginners Courses first.
- Your camera, either a DSLR or a compact equivalent with manual exposure.
- (No camera? No problem. We offer free camera hire during the course, just tell us in advance).
- Positive attitude and passion for visual arts ?
Course Outline
The first part will explore some theory on studio lighting, light modifiers and all the different types of light setups.
Next will be a guided practice with a model, first with a white backdrop and then with a black backdrop. All these changes will give you the opportunity to gain more hands-on experience with different light schemes and also more variety for your portfolio.
We will end the course with image revision and individual feedback.
