Dietmar Bachmann

Dietmar Bachmann is a Zurich-born photographer whose focus tends to be on tranquil subjects: architecture, interiors, landscapes, details of nature, small animals, night and astrophotography, product photography and abstract photography. However, unhurried street scenes and the urban landscape in the broader sense also feature among his favourite subjects.

His visual language is characterised by photographic minimalism, with images that are at times strictly formal in composition. It combines precise craftsmanship with a quiet, poetic power of observation. He explores themes such as the connection between photography and mindfulness in everyday life, or how technology is changing the human condition.

Photography was an important interest for Dietmar from an early age, and he initially learnt the craft largely through self-study. Between 2008 and 2011, he successfully completed various diploma courses at the Leica Academy in Germany. In 2012 and 2013, he completed his training as a professional photographer with ‘cap professional’.

In his teaching of photography courses, he emphasises the importance of precise observation: the ability to recognise the essential in the obvious and to translate this into a clear, calm image.
